Summit County Seeks Input on Mesa Cortina/Wildernest Open Space Management Plan Amendment

Summit County, Colorado - The Summit County Open Space Advisory Council (OSAC) is soliciting public input on a draft amendment to the Mesa Cortina/ Wildernest Open Space Management Plan at its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 2 at 6:00 P.M. at the County Commons in Frisco. The existing management plan was adopted in 2002 and covers the undeveloped buffer between the Mesa Cortina and Wildernest subdivisions. The primary purpose of this amendment is to incorporate a 26.6-acre adjacent property acquired in 2005 located west of Wildernest Road into the management plan
This amended management plan identifies allowed public uses and management priorities to provide for the sustainable enjoyment of this open space by the public, while protecting the open space values for which Summit County purchased the property. A copy of proposed amendment to the Mesa Cortina/Wildernest Open Space Management Plan is available at www.co.summit.co.us, or at the Summit County Open Space and Trails Department office.

“Management plans identify objectives to preserve and enhance the public value provided by individual open space properties,” said Brian Lorch, Open Space and Trails Senior Resource Specialist. “We hope that anyone interested in the use and/or preservation of this land will provide input to insure exemplary management of this property both now and into the future.”

The 26.6-acre extension of to the Mesa Cortina/Wildernest Open Space was acquired by Summit County with financial assistance of Great Outdoors Colorado, Buffalo Mountain Metro District, Town of Silverthorne, Mesa Cortina Water and Sanitation District, Cortina Property Owners Association, and Cortina Ridge Homeowners Association. The extension property is visually prominent from I-70 and Silverthorne, at the base of Buffalo Mountain.
Written comments can also be submitted by April 30 for OSAC consideration. Following its meeting the OSAC will forward management recommendations to the Summit County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). The BOCC will consider these recommendations and adopt revisions to this management plan at a future public meeting.
