Fishhook Property Under Contract to be Open Space
Summit County, Colorado - Summit County Government has entered into a purchase contract to acquire the 35-acre Fishhook property so it can be preserved as open space. The property is located in the Snake River Basin, immediately north of the Highway 6/ Swan Mountain Road intersection.
“We’re elated to hear the news,” said Bob Craig, a Keystone resident who represents the Snake River Basin on the county’s Open Space Advisory Council. “The open space values on this property are of high importance to residents in the Keystone and Summit Cove areas, especially as a community separator and buffer between Keystone Resort and the Town of Dillon.”
The Fishhook property not only includes an undeveloped meadow that is highly visible to travelers along Highway 6, but also includes significant frontage along the Snake River. When combined with adjacent county-owned lands, this purchase will provide a half-mile of public access on both banks of the Snake River.
“The County Commissioners and Open Space Advisory Council view the Fishhook property as a top open space priority in the Snake River Basin,” said Todd Robertson, county Open Space and Trails Director. “Efforts to acquire the property as open space date back over a decade.”
The contract calls for a purchase price of $1.5 million, with closing scheduled to occur on September 7th. “This is a fair deal for all parties,” said Mark Thaemert, owner of the property.
The Board of County Commissioners will consider approval to exercise the purchase contract at its August 14th meeting. The purchase will be funded by the county’s open space property tax mill levy, which sunsets in 2009.
