The Summit County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has adopted Resolution 2007-65, which rescinds the fire ban enacted by Resolution 2007-57 that went into effect June 30, 2007. The ban will be lifted effective immediately.

As a result of lifting the fire ban restrictions, open fires will now be allowed in unincorporated areas of Summit County. The decision to lift the bans was based on the recent weather conditions and the forecast of continued rain. The fire danger level for the county has been reduced to “low”.

Although the fire ban has been lifted, it is possible that future fire bans may need to be enacted. Extreme caution should be exercised when burning in open areas as the potential for fire still remains. When burning in open spaces, it is recommended that the fire be under constant supervision and fire suppression equipment be readily available at the site.
