Summit County has just hired Kathryn Davis Grohusky to join the team at the Community & Senior Center as the new Manager. She is replacing Beth Koran who retired after serving the Center for over 20 years as the trusted Community & Senior Center Coordinator. As well, Christy Nelson was hired as the Center's Volunteer Coordinator in February to replace Carol Rickauer who also recently retired after eight years.
The Community & Senior Center provides a variety of spaces and services for community programming, meetings, and events. The Center's facilities are available to public and non-profit organizations, civic organizations, religious groups, community groups, and residents of Summit County. There are six meeting rooms for rent to accommodate groups up to 210 people. The Center also includes a dance floor, multi-media equipment, a commercial kitchen, and an auditorium. The Center is also the home of Timberline Adult Day Services who provide quality day care for adults with special needs and respite for their caregivers.
Senior services at the Center are provided through a partnership with Summit County Senior Citizen's, Inc. (SCSC). The mission of SCSC is to improve the quality of life for senior citizens of Summit County. SCSC welcomes all those ages 55 and better to join them in fun volunteer services and social events. The seniors here are an active group enjoying all the outdoor activities our County has to offer!
Activities organized by SCSC include meals, socials, trips, transportation to medical appointments, year-round organized games and classes, and a wide variety of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, skiing, and snowshoeing.
Ms. Grohusky, a local resident, contributes experience as a programs manager, facility supervisor, grant-writer, and government not-for-profit partnership liaison. Her most recent professional experience includes volunteering as a co-founder and Board President of the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District. This experience has set her up to serve the County as their liaison with the SCSC. Kathryn also previously directed the Keystone Science School, a division of The Keystone Center, for five years. She has also worked for local businesses including Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, Wilderness Sports, Colorado Bike and Ski Tours, and Vail Mountain School.
Ms. Nelson, the Volunteer Coordinator, brings over 15 years experience as a corporate trainer for Motorola as well as an international perspective from many years of living all over the world. She is glad to be back in the mountains as her first job out of college was teaching in Eagle County and she has always hoped to come back. She will be coordinating the RSVP Senior Corps volunteers as well as Senior Nutrition Services.
Ms. Grohusky looks forward to serving Summit County and " truly appreciates this incredible professional opportunity to become the Manager of the Community & Senior Center." She particularly wants to acknowledge Beth Koran and Carol Rickauer "for their incredible long-term commitment and service to this organization." Beth Koran served as the Center's Coordinator for 20 years, and lovingly nurtured the creation of tremendous resources for the senior citizens of Summit County. "The solid foundation at the Community & Senior Center is Beth's legacy and is a greatly appreciated gift and resource for everyone in the County " says Ms. Grohusky.
Ms. Grohusky will work closely with the SCSC Board President, Jean Reitan, and her board to continue the tradition of successful programming and services for Summit's active older adults. The changes taking place at the Community & Senior Center present many exciting new opportunities for Summit County residents of all ages! Ms. Grohusky, Ms. Nelson, Ms. Reitan, and Diane Rogers, the Center's Administrative Assistant, all encourage you to drop by and introduce yourselves. Come visit your Community & Senior Center and see what we have to offer!
