County Seeks Applicants for Open Space Advisory Council

Summit County, Colorado - Applications are currently being accepted for one at-large seat on the Summit County Open Space Advisory Council (OSAC). The OSAC is responsible for recommending open space acquisition priorities to the Board of County Commissioners along with providing input on the County's overall Open Space protection program.

The Advisory Council consists of eleven members - two representatives from each of the County's four planning basins, (Upper Blue Basin, Lower Blue Basin, Snake River Basin and Ten Mile Basin) and three at-large representatives. Members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and must be full-time residents of Summit County. The current vacancy is for an at-large representative with a term expiring in December 2008. "The OSAC plays an important role in the County's open space protection efforts," said Todd Robertson, County Open Space and Trails Director. "The OSAC has assisted the county in protecting critical areas as open space throughout Summit County from Green Mountain to Hoosier Pass." OSAC meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Buffalo Mountain room of the County Commons building. The public is invited to attend. Occasional site visits are also scheduled throughout the year by the Council to review properties that could be recommended for open space purchases.

Typically, members spend an average of 8 - 10 hours a month on OSAC activities. Applicants must have resided in Summit County for a minimum of one year and cannot hold an elected County or municipal office or be employed by the County or a municipality with planning and zoning duties. The BOCC strives to maintain a diversity of representation on the OSAC through appointing members from a variety of backgrounds and professions.

Individuals interested in applying for the Open Space Advisory Council should send a letter describing their interest to the Summit County Open Space and Trails Department, P.O. Box 5660, Frisco, CO 80443 or via fax at 668-4225. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9th.

The appointments to the OSAC will be made by the BOCC in July. Anyone with questions regarding the Advisory Council may call 668-4060.
