Mission Statement
The mission of the Summit County Open Space and Trails Department is to identify, protect and manage open spaces, trails, and trailheads to preserve and maintain Summit County’s rural mountain character, unique natural areas, and a high quality of life for its residents and guests.

 

Summit County Open Space and Trails Department Highlights:
  • Over 13,500 acres protected as open space for the community and visitors
  • Each tax dollar spent to purchase open space to date has protected over four dollars worth of property in Summit County through contributions from property owners, the Colorado Lottery, and other organizations
  • Access or recreational uses provided in over 250 purchases and dedications
  • Over 20 miles of natural surface trails constructed and maintained
  • 25.5 miles of the Recreational Pathway (Recpath) maintained
  • Forest management and reforestation efforts conducted every year since 2001
  • Average of 550 volunteers utilized each year, whose work is valued at over $65,000/year
