Summit County Library Gift And Donation Policy
The library acknowledges the importance of gifts and donations to the library's future development and growth.The library welcomes gifts of money, library materials, furnishings or real property. These gifts help enrich and improve the library's resources.
All donations become the property of Summit County Library. The library reserves the right to utilize donated materials whatever way best benefits the collection and services.
Gifts may be added to the collection, sold with the proceeds to benefit the library, passed on to other libraries or discarded as necessary. The decision as to the acceptance of furnishings and equipment shall be made by the Library Board of Trustees on advice of the Library Director. Among the criteria on which the decision shall be based is the need, space, impact on staff time and expense and frequency of maintenance.
For tax purposes, the donor is responsible for obtaining an estimate or appraisal of the donated materials. The library is unable to assess the value of these items.
