The Summit County Sheriff's Office, located in Breckenridge, has 73 employees. The office is divided into 2 divisions; Operations and Detentions, both overseen by Sheriff Minor and Undersheriff Woodman. The Operations Division, supervised by Captain Joe Wray, is comprised of Patrol, Search & Rescue, Water Rescue, Special Operations, S.W.A.T., the Explorer Program, School Resource Officer and D.A.R.E. programs, TRAK-IT, Records management, Concealed Carry Permits and Administrative Services. |

The Detentions Division, supervised by Captain Dave Suter, includes the Jail, Community Service, Civil Process Service, court security and extradition. Our detention facility can accommodate up to 95 inmates each day and frequently houses inmates from neighboring counties. |

Sheriff John Minor, originally from Liverpool, England, with long-term family ties in law enforcement, began his law enforcement career in 1990 with the SCSO working in the Detentions Division and Operations Division. In 1993 he began working for the Silverthorne Police Department where he served in various capacities, including Interim Chief of Police In 2004 he was appointed by the County's commissioners to serve as Sheriff. The citizens of Summit county then elected him as Sheriff. Read Sheriff Minor's full biography... Derek Woodman, Undersheriff, also with long-term family roots in law enforcement, began his career in law enforcement with the SCSO in 1981. During his 24 years at the SO he has overseen each department with in the Office at one point or another. Currently, both the Operations Division and the Jail Division report to him. |
