Explorer Post #187

The Summit County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post #187 was chartered in 1997.  The Explorer Program is designed for young adults, ages 14 thru 20, to learn about law enforcement as a future career.  There are five areas of emphasis in the program including career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience.

Members undergo intense training in a wide variety of areas including firearms, domestic crisis, report writing, crime scene investigations, building searches and traffic stops.  Every year members of the Explorer Post attend the Law Enforcement Exploring Post Advisors Association of Colorado, (LEEPAAC), Regional Conference in Chandler, Arizona and participate in team and individual competitions with other Explorer Posts from around the nation.  Explorer Post #187 has earned five awards and several medals during the past two Conferences.

The Explorers meet every other Wednesday from 6:00PM to 8:30PM at the Summit County Sheriff's Office at 501 N. Park Avenue in Breckenridge.  If you are interested in obtaining more information about the Explorer Post, you may email to explorers@co.summit.co.us or call Deputy Matt Ewert at 970-453-2232 ext. 392.
